Taiwanese and Japanese students were mixed into groups to explore the relationship between environmental factors such as light, temperature, humidity, and soil characteristics with the chlorophyll content and morphology of plant leaves.

The course will include the extraction of plant DNA, observation of plant fluorescence under ultraviolet light, an introduction to the structure, principles, and correct usage of microscopes, and hands-on practice in observing animal organ sections.

This year's course lasted six days, starting with a snorkeling trip to Hou-Bihu in Kenting to observe fish upon arrival.

The field trip on May 18-19 included the following course activities: plot design, microclimate environment measurement, nocturnal biological survey, and soil animal investigation.

Professor Wu conducted a bilateral exchange program funded by the National Science Council and visited the Doñana Biological Station, which is part of the Spanish National Research Council, on March 24. During the visit, he primarily met with Dr. Gomez-Mestre, a researcher from the Ecological Evolution and Development Research Group at the station.

This year, the international joint course is scheduled to be held at the Alibang Ecological Farm in New Taipei City. On March 10, professors from both universities conducted a site visit together and discussed the course design

An ecological consultant is a professional who provides advice and guidance on ecological issues to businesses or organizations. Their primary role is to minimize the negative impacts of engineering projects on the ecological environment.

During this visit, Professor Kobayashi's main agenda is to meet with students participating in this year's international joint course, introduce Ryukyu University and the origins of the course, and confirm course details with the faculty of our department.

Dr. Ivan Gomez-Mestre from Spain visited our department and interacted with students from Professor Wu's lab while providing a specialized lecture. He discussed the reactions of tadpoles to environmental pressures, their developmental plasticity, and the ecological and evolutionary significance of these responses.

From January 5 to 9, 2024, our department's Professor Liao Qi-Zheng, Associate Professor Chen Yi-Hui, Assistant Professor Zeng Yi-Jie, along with Professor Izawa Masako, Professor Tsutada Tetsuro, and Assistant Professor Kobayashi Shun from Ryukyu University, will meet to discuss the details of the off-site learning course planned for the next semester..

The 111th Academic Year Senior Research Presentation Conference will be held on December 3rd. A total of 23 research papers and 13 internship成果 will be presented on that day, and seven external professors and experts have been invited to serve as judges and provide professional feedback
