On July 18, 2024, students from Zhulin High School in New Taipei City came to our department to participate in the "Let's Explore Biology" university experience camp.
In the morning, Ms. Yi-Jie Zeng arranged for the students to try extracting plant DNA and finally used a nanodrop to measure the concentration of the extracted DNA, allowing each group to get instant results. During the waiting period for the chemical reactions, Ms. Zeng introduced gene transformation technology and let the students observe the fluorescence produced by plants implanted with fluorescent genes under ultraviolet light, helping them understand the potential of gene transformation technology in solving future human and environmental problems.
In the afternoon, Mr. Ming Liu introduced the discovery process of cells and the morphology of animal tissues, along with the structure, principles, and correct usage of microscopes. Then, the students practiced using microscopes to observe animal organ sections, learning about the constituent tissues of each organ and the principles of staining.

Each group of students had a senior from our department to assist and guide them in operation and observation
The camp ended with a brief talk by our department head, Mr. Wu Tzu-Meng, about the prospects of life sciences
