Ecological consulting is an industry that provides consultation and guidance on ecological issues for businesses or other organizations. This includes a wide range of consulting areas such as environmental impact assessment, engineering planning, ecological research, and engineering ecological inspections. General Manager Lin Yaling began by introducing students to the concept of ecological work and the service content of ecological consulting. For example, suggesting wildlife corridors or improvements to structures to enhance wildlife passage during engineering planning. With numerous public projects in Taiwan, there is a mechanism for ecological inspections to mitigate the negative impact of engineering on the ecological environment. The inspection scope is typically smaller and is carried out throughout the entire project, with ongoing suggestions for changes in construction methods based on ecological conservation goals. Using two ecological inspection case studies, General Manager Lin emphasized establishing good communication mechanisms with engineering personnel and the public. Through overlaying map data, she illustrated how ecological inspections systematically analyze basic data and propose ecological conservation suggestions, providing a clearer understanding of the implications of improvement strategies for both engineers and the public. After the presentation, time was allocated for students to ask questions, helping them further understand the service content of ecological consulting and engineering ecological inspections and providing interested students with future career reference.
