Professor Wu from the Department of Life Sciences executed a bilateral exchange program funded by the National Science Council, and on March 24, he visited the Doñana Biological Station, which was affiliated with the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).
During the visit, he primarily met with Dr. Gomez-Mestre, a researcher from the Ecological Evolution and Development Research Group at the station. Dr. Gomez-Mestre has maintained long-term contact and collaboration with Professor Wu. Last April (2023), he also led a research team to visit our department for an exchange with faculty and students. During his visit in Spain, Professor Wu exchanged ideas with the Spanish research team regarding future research collaborations and gave a presentation. He also accompanied the team to various locations for field observations and sampling. In particular, he visited the protected areas of Doñana National Park to understand the conservation status and the issues facing the protected area, such as the over-extraction of groundwater by nearby farmers and the impacts of climate change, which have led to insufficient water supply for wetlands, affecting the breeding and ecology of local amphibians in temporary water bodies.
