The Department of Life Science Collaborates with University of the Ryukyus on International Program and Conducts Off-Campus Learning Site Survey for the Upcoming Semester

From January 5th to 9th, 2023, Dean Guanghui Lu from the College of Life Science led a delegation to the University of the Ryukyus in Japan to engage in discussions and negotiations regarding future international research collaborations. During this visit, Professor Chi-Cheng Liao, Associate Professor Yi-Hui Chen, and Assistant Professor I-Chieh Tseng from our department met with Professor Masako Izawa, Professor Tetsuo Denda, and Assistant Professor Shun Kobayashi from the University of the Ryukyus to deliberate on the details of an upcoming off-campus learning course planned for the next semester. Scheduled for August 14-20, the program will take place within the University of the Ryukyus campus and focus on the theme "Biodiversity of Terrestrial Invertebrates." Our students will collaborate with their Japanese peers, and the entire curriculum will be conducted in English. The course will concentrate on the composition and research methods of terrestrial invertebrates unique to the Ryukyu region. Taiwanese students and their Japanese peers will collaborate on tasks such as collecting invertebrate specimens, measuring environmental conditions, species identification, and analyzing data to explore the "Comparison of Ground Invertebrate Biodiversity in Different Habitat Types". The students will present their achievements orally.
